Enhanced Stress Resilience Training (ESRT) is a culturally tailored curriculum bundle that consists of the following components:

  • Five weekly 1-hour in-person sessions

  • A detailed facilitator guide

  • A cognitive scaffolding framework

  • Weekly online conceptual videos

  • Weekly smartphone-based adjunct exercises

  • A non-commercial app-based practice platform

ESRT has been effectively administered by multiple, highly trained instructors to surgical and non-surgical trainees and faculty, both within and outside our institution, at the local, national, and international levels. We have established sensitive measures and practical methods, consolidated them into a study codebook, and validated them in multiple small randomized controlled trials (RCTs) at our institution.  ESRT is now available in a live-streamed/remote format and via a free app featuring recordings by ESRT instructors.

ESRT COURSE

Since 2020, ESRT has seen significant growth in the United States and globally, with numerous institutions participating in training initiatives, including UCLA, the University of Washington, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Minnesota. ESRT trials have also been conducted in unique contexts, such as UC Davis's veterinary medicine program, the American University of Beirut's Mindful Lebanon initiative, and the European Physician WellMed collaborative.
